Yoga Explorations Class
focusing on ‘loving our kidneys’
Friday, Jan 20th
9:30 – 11:30a
Balanced Movement Studio, Carrboro

kidney love
As we move deeper into winter it can be nice to pay a little extra attention to our kidneys.... mostly because kidneys are associated with winter and can be even more vulnerable to the stresses of this colder, darker season.
So tomorrow I thought we would focus on a ‘love our kidneys’ exploration of poses, movement, breath, acupressure, sound, visualization and whatever else comes forth, to help us nourish and provide support for these vital yin organs. The kidneys govern much of our health and well-being and fortunately there is a lot we can do to help them along. It can be a perfect time, in this first month of the year as we think of new beginnings, to remember our kidneys and do what we can to enhance & tonify the energy of these precious organs.

YOGA
EXPLORATIONS is a two hour class offering
an unhurried, organic, internal and exploratory approach
of breath, energy, and movement.
This class is gentle - yet tremendously powerful. In
an unhurried, loving, and supportive way, students are encouraged
to tune into their bodies and to playfully explore movements – both
internal and external - which enhance their physical well-being. Looking
inwardly, befriending, and working with the tight, difficult places
we all have... moving and breathing gently into these places, with
love and support, helps free previously blocked energy and make new
space within for healing and freedom of movement. When
the body is honored in this way, it begins to trust, relax,
and open thus allowing for a deeper experience of sensuality and
serenity.
Students with all levels of experience are welcome.
The class is very friendly in nature and tends to be on the smaller
side
thus offering the opportunity for more individual attention
Please feel free to join in anytime.
For information about other classes, please see the Weekly
Schedule.

Questions I am most commonly asked:
What are the nicest things about the retreat in Mexico?
No demands! Centering life around relaxation, yoga, healthy food, and nature. Feeling how time seems to slow down. The gentleness, playfulness, and space that comes as one effortlessly falls into a more natural and easy rhythm of life. The water, the sky and all the magic of the Mayan Yucatan. Sharing this with others. The list is endless... but in the end returning home a softer, gentler, less encumbered soul.
This Yoga Vacation in Puerto Morelos offers a small town urban experience of of the Mexican Yucatan as we enjoy living within the compound of a private retreat center in the the small seaside fishing town of Puerto Morelos. Here life weaves itself between the comforts of the center and the soul of this lively town which is located along the shore of the Mexican Caribbean. After morning yoga, we are served a luscious brunch around the pool in the courtyard of the center. Most other activities and meals are centered around the ocean and this unique Mayan town, the heart of which is a 10-15 minute stroll by road or beach. One can choose between the secluded life of the retreat center, the sun and breezes of the beach, the activity of the town, and the adventure of excursions to the coral reef, jungle, and ruins nearby. We've been doing this since 2003 and each year has taken on a rich, diverse life of it's own... weaving yoga, space, time, and community in delightfully unexpected ways.
Why do you teach yoga? and how long?
I began to teach in 1996 because I wanted to share the wonder and joy I was experiencing in my own practice. Teaching also weaves together for me my passion for health, love of nature, and adventure. Being with people as they discover new ways of moving, breathing, and being alive in their body is an honor and privilege... for me a truly indescribably rich and rewarding experience.
Where do you teach?
My home base is in Chapel Hill/Carrboro North Carolina and I hold regular retreats in Mexico and on the coast of NC. This past August my husband & I offered our first retreat in the Loire Valley of France. I taught the Yoga and he was the chef. It was Fabulous! so we're offering it again. I also periodically teach in Munich. and in Eftalou, Greece & elsewhere, I often assist Angela Farmer at her various women's retreats.
What is your main philosophy of teaching?
For me yoga is an exploration. An exploration of our being and our connection with the world around us. My yoga is not about forcing and pushing anything or about getting things "right" or about following a system of yoga rules or even about finding answers by following one specific path. It is about enjoying a rich and winding journey into the realms of ourselves and discovering how to live fully through every part of our being. I use the body and breath as the way in. By diving in, moving and breathing, we meet ourselves in fresh new ways and learn how to allow our yoga to help us unfold and relax into into the joy of just 'being
